Elizabeth Ventura - Biography

About the Artist

My journey in art

Artist Statement and Biography

Artist Statement:

I’m intrigued by the beauty found everyday beauty and chaos, from cement cracks on subway station walls, the motion of the ocean, contours of coastlines and the blooming of flowers.

My painting always starts from life.  Sometimes I’m overwhelmed by everything I’m experiencing all at once -- shape color, form --and my goal is to express this ‘all at once feeling’ on canvas. My art is an effort to record an emotional footprint of the moment.

Sometimes I seek to answer a question like what would happen if I asked a Blue Meanie (from the Beatles Yellow Submarine) to create a painting using some origami paper? How does it feel to age? What helps me cope with the chaos of the world? How is it that I always find hope after sadness?

These paintings are a counterpoint to the controlled rules of art, society, even geometry that serve as guidelines. The work looks at how far can you bend the rules before they break.

Biography:

Suburban born and raised Elizabeth Ventura always longed for the wider world. Much of her work is inspired by her travels around the world and life experiences living in Europe, Bermuda and New York City.

Focusing on the abstract form, Ventura explores landscapes from the walls of the subway to the loquat trees of Bermuda, self-portraiture and everyday objects from fire extinguishers, to flashlights.  “Sometimes I’m overwhelmed by everything I’m experiencing all at once -- shape color, form --and my goal is to express this ‘all at once feeling’ on canvas.” She says her art is an effort to record an emotional footprint of the moment.

While much of her training could be described as self-directed, Ventura benefited from classical study at The Art Students League, The Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences as well as many individual classes and workshops. Her teachers have included, Karen Titus Smith, Richard Mckinley, Brian Bosmeisler, Danneille Mick and Jenny Nelson.

She lives with her husband in Clearwater, Florida with a deep love and connection with New York City.
